TonePerfect scores the whole utterance, every word, and every individual sound inside each word: a phoneme in Chinese, English, Spanish, French, German, Russian and Korean, and a mora in Japanese. It then ranks your sounds weakest-first and builds your next practice around them.
Mandarin, the original course, scores each syllable's tone separately from its initial and final, and draws the pitch curve you produced against a native one. The Japanese course also scores pitch accent.
